A young man facing assault charges, stemming from a party last year, pleaded guilty to two of the counts against him in a Penticton courtroom on Wednesday. It was the first day of the trial.

Jamie Wolanski, 20, will now serve 30 days concurrently on the counts of assaulting a peace officer and willfully resisting or obstructing a police officer.

The other counts of assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and uttering threats were dropped, according to Crown counsel John Swanson.

The surprise plea was entered in the early afternoon following a morning of testimony given by a couple who lived next door to Wolanski  and a police officer.

On the night of Feb. 11 2011, Wolanski held a party at his Penticton home which quickly spiraled out of control.
When a fight broke out the neighbours intervened and said they were subsequently threatened by Wolanski and other people in attendance.

The man said he was also punched in the face by a youth he believed to be Wolanski.

Police officers who arrived on the scene said they found the youth to be in a virtual rage because of the highly charged circumstances.

The first officer to get to the party, said Wolanski walked out his front door claiming his rights before resisting arrest by three other officers.

Wolanski is also facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of 16-year-old Andrew McAdam at a graduation bush party in Penticton last June.  He was recently jailed for breaching his bail conditions.

His preliminary inquiry for the murder charge is expected to begin on July 16.
