Canadians getting hosed at the pump

To the editor:

Canadians are paying one of the highest prices for gas of all the oil producing countries in the world.

It's bad enough that natural resources are exploited by the rest of the world let alone that the average Canadian is exploited with it.

Why do we want to build pipelines and develop the tar sands to supply our competitors with oil while gouging our own people.

Imagine the ripple effect of reducing our fuel cost to 50 cents per litre for Canadians.

Even this is high compared to what is paid in Saudi Arabia or Venezuela. At this kind of price the cost of Canadian products would be far more competitive in the world market.

Do we really need "free trade" or to be a member of OPEC?

We continue to give away what the world wants at the expense of our own residents.

The federal and provincial governments talk about spending more on employment and job creation plans.

Lets make a dramatic cut in fuel costs and see where our economy goes instead of spending more.

It has reached the point where I am almost ashamed to say that I am a Canadian.
