Jubilee Medal a 'humbling' honour
Being singled out for what he calls a 'team effort' was a humbling experience for David Kerr.
The veteran Commissionaire from Penticton was one of four members of the BC Mainline Division of the Commissionaires honoured with a Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal.
The medal presentation took place at the Delta Grand Okanagan Hotel during the sixth day of the Annual Meeting of Directors.
The Honourable Steven L. Point, Lieutenant Governor of BC, presented the medals.
"I was quite surprised actually. Like I say I think everybody I work with deserves it," says Kerr.
"I can't take all the credit for that."
Kerr is the Commissionaires' site supervisor at the Penticton Airport. He has been stationed at the airport for the past 15 years.
He says he'll share the medal with all of his colleagues.
Kerr oversees all aspects of aviation and passenger safety at the airport.
He was singled out for his continued leadership within, and dedication to, Commissionaires BC.
"David is the ideal commissionaire," says Interior Director of Client Services, Brian Garvie.
"He is loyal and dedicated to the job, has great leadership skills and interacts in a very caring manner with the public."
Three other BC Commissionaires were also presented Queen's Diamond Jubilee medals including Allen Batchelar (retiring to Kelowna), Bob Stephenson (Prince George) and Brian Hatch (South Delta).
The Commissionaires conference wraps up Saturday.
