Building a better guitar
It's a new design that is said to take the music industry by storm and it's being built and created by a business in the Interior of BC.
Lee's music has been repairing guitars, as a family business for 40 years, but according to General Manager Mike Miltimore there are a lot of common 'aliments' in the standard guitar design.
"So what we did, is we came up with a way of building guitars that has a neck support all the way through (the guitar), which gives us a freer floating guitar top that can move in a much more resonate area. But more importantly there is a way to adjust (the strings) on the back of the guitar ."
To help Lee's Music make this patent pending new guitar design a true reality, Miltimore entered to win the Business Development Bank of Canada's Entrepreneur's award for innovation and he's currently in second place.
"The BDC chose us to be the guy's from BC, and we went on to the finalist stage. There are eight of us competing to win the top prize of $100,000."
If Miltimore wins, the prize money will go toward getting Lee's Music's manufacturing business up and running in Kamloops, to supply North America with this new guitar.
Feedback on the design is positive, according to Miltimore, who says several people have been putting in orders to purchase the guitar.
Dustin Block, helps to repair guitars at Lee's Music and he says the new design will take repair time on guitars down 80 per cent.
"What makes this guitar different is sound. Sound is always number one when it comes to guitar, number two is feel and three is the adjustment. The fact someone who doesn't know a lot about guitars can adjust (their strings) on the fly, is something no other guitar can do."
To vote for Miltimore and Lee's Music's new guitar design titled, Riversong, go to the BDC's website. The contest ends June 19.
