Wolfpack, Mariners, put down Coyotes

The Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack clinched 2nd place in the Conference on Saturday with convincing wins over the Okanagan College Coyotes and Vancouver Island Mariners In Canadian Collegiate baseball action.

The Wolfpack received strong efforts from both starting pitchers and swung big bats. OC and the Mariners didn’t help their cause by committing key errors.

In Saturday's opener, TRU dumped the Coyotes 10-3.

Winning pitcher Denver Wynn pitched 6 strong innings, leaving TRU with a 9–1 lead when he left the game. Coyotes starter Zack Burlon struggled through 5 innings, giving up 7 earned runs and 10 hits.

In game 2, TRU hammered Vancouver Island 12-0 as DH Alex Condon led the way with 5 hits, scoring 2 runs, and driving in 4, including a 3 run homer in the 4th. Condon leads the league in homers with 8. Winning pitcher Travis Nevakshonoff pitched 7 strong innings giving up just 6 hits

The Mariners would bounce back however, as they dumped OC 9-2 in the nightcap.

Coyotes starting pitcher Marcus Drewry pitched well through 7 innings and was down 4–2 when he gave way to Kiefer Rodway in the 8th.  In that inning, a key 2 out error, opened the floodgates for the Mariners.

The next batter, Dallas Monk, made OC pay for the mistake by hitting a 2 run double. That was followed by a 2 run single from Blake Robson and suddenly it was 8–2.

Sunday sees the three teams do battle again on the final day of the regular season. The league championships start Thursday May 10, in Kamloops.
