It wasn't your average car jacking.

Salmon Arm RCMP have arrested two people and recovered around $300,000 worth of stolen property thanks to a tip called in Friday February 24.

It began when someone told police about a Kenworth Tractor and low bed trailer that was parked in the town's industrial area with a company name from Alberta.

The company was contacted and it was learned the unit was stolen from Edson, located about 200 kilometres west of Edmonton, along with a Caterpillar 308D excavator.

Officers arrived to find a man and woman had parked beside the stolen unit in a black F350 pickup. The stolen license plate was found in the back of that vehicle and a subsequent search found the keys to both the Kenworth and the excavator in the man's pockets.

Both were arrested at the scene for possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Police then followed up by searching two properties owned by the suspect.

The excavator was found on the property along with a 1998 GMC which had been stolen in Salmon Arm in January. On top of that, they also discovered the pieces of a 2011 Dodge pickup which had been stolen from Edmonton.

Both suspects are known to police and one recently got out of jail after getting caught stealing a Tractor Trailer loaded with lumber out of Kamloops.

The names of the suspects are being withheld at this time.
