Food vendors in Penticton will have to pay more this year for the right to serve food in the downtown area.
The city leases out four vending spots in the downtown core at rates Penticton's Director of Development Services Anthony Haddad says is below market value.
Last year a random draw was used to determine who would receive a license, but this year, city staff is recommending that preference be given to returning vendors in good standing. If there is any available then preference would be given to local operators.
Haddad also says the visual appearance of the vending cart will be considered and successful bidders will also have to go through a safety check
Fans of Jeffers Fries on Nanaimo Avenue is on a separate contract and will stay put.
