With good air quality and venting conditions today in the Central Okanagan, the Regional District is conducting a controlled burn in Glen Canyon Regional Park.

Communications Officer Bruce Smith says, “Open burning is allowed today for those eligible property owners with permits from their local fire authority and with a permit issued by West Kelowna Fire Rescue, piles of pine beetle infested and other fire hazard wood debris are being burned today in Glen Canyon Regional Park.

Further controlled burns may be required in the coming weeks to dispose of fire hazard debris that is being collected as part of a fuel modification project on approximately 10-hectares of the park at the end of Smith Creek Road.”

All local fire departments and local media have been advised of today’s activity in the park and will be notified when further burning takes place.
