Pit bulls euthanized

7 p.m. update:  Dog control confirms that the two pit bulls, voluntarily surrendered by their owner, have been euthanized.

"The little dog, his name was Jack, was killed on his front porch in his own yard on McVicar. He wasn't doing anything to provoke them," says neighbour Darcy Nybo.

"His owner tried to stop it and couldn't.  The dogs then grabbed little Jack and went running down the street with him, past the school and eventually to their own home on Webber, about four to five blocks away."

Nybo says one of Jack's owners is a nine-year-old girl and she will deeply miss her little friend.

Original story: Officials are investigating a pit bull attack on another dog in the 3400 block of Webber Road.

The attack occurred mid-Monday afternoon when two pit bulls escaped the owners' yard.

According to witnesses the dogs grabbed a Shih Tzu from the front porch of its yard, dragged it home and killed it.

The remains of the dead dog were left in a neighbour's yard.

The owner of the pit bulls has agreed to surrender the animals to authorities pending an investigation.

Neighbours says there have been no previous problems with the two pit bulls.
