Alaina Podmorrow has done more to 'change the world' in her 14 years than most people could hope to do in a dozen lifetimes.

The Lake Country teen has been recognized for her work by Mackenzie Investments.

The company has named Podmorrow Canada's Top Teen Philanthropist of 2011.

At age nine, Podmorrow started 'Little Women for Little Women in Afghanistan'.

The organization supports the education of women and girls in Afghanistan.

It raises money to pay for teachers' salaries, train teachers and provide libraries for rural villages.

Over the past five years, 'Little Women for Little Women in Afghanistan' has raised nearly $375,000.

Podmorrow has also taken part in the Children's Rights March on Parliament Hill to raise awareness for the rights of children in Afghanistan and attended special events marking International Women's Day in Ottawa.

"Thank you Mackenize Investments for the great honour of being named Canada's Top Teen Philanthropist of the Year," says Podmorrow in a statement.

"There are so many young philanthropists worldwide making a difference. Being recognized for our work is absolutely humbling."

Along with the recognition, Podmorrow receives a $5,000 donation in her name to her organization.

She also receives a personal prize of $2,500.
