Penticton Indian Band Chief Jonathan Kruger didn't make the trip to Ottawa for Tuesday's Crown meeting with First Nations' Chiefs, but he is following the summit from the band office.

He calls the gathering a good first step, but more time is needed.

"I am disappointed with (Prime Minister) Harper and his speech but it is time we sit at the table and start talking, so it is a good step in the right direction."

Four hours is not enough time given to the issues according to Krugar, instead, he would like Harper to allow a day or two for each province where he could meet with First Nations from across the country and in the territories.

Chief Kruger says Grand Chief Stewart Phillip sat down with the Okanagan Nation Band leaders prior to going to Ottawa.

"We talked about revenue sharing and we talked about doing some major changes in the Indian Act which eliminates some major obstacles for us to develop."

He adds that it takes six months to get a permit through Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.
