The defence minister is keeping tight-lipped about a Canadian navy intelligence officer accused of giving information to a foreign entity.

Peter MacKay refused to say today whether national security has been put at risk, nor would he reveal which country was involved.

Instead, MacKay said that anything he would reveal could compromise the court case against Sub.-Lt. Jeffrey Paul Delisle.

Delisle faces charges under the Security of Information Act that deal with communicating information that could harm Canada's interests.

His case has been adjourned until next week.

MacKay was asked about speculation that Russia was involved as the alleged foreign entity, something the minister would neither confirm nor deny.

Court documents allege the offences happened between July 2007 last Friday, in or near Halifax, Ottawa and Kingston, Ont.
