Children shooting at cars

The call comes in - "Shots Fired" - RCMP race to the scene where a driver reports being shot at from another vehicle.

Police move in for a risky take down, they discover the shots were fired by children using life-like pellet guns. The mother told police she thought they were just shooting at traffic signs while she was driving.

Members located and stopped the vehicle off of Green Rd. in Rutland and determined that five children aged 11-16, all passengers of the vehicle, were shooting pellets randomly outside the vehicle and over the roof.

Police have seized three pellet guns and the pellets. The investigators noted the realistic look to the guns and said that from a distance, they looked very real.

There were thankfully no injuries, however the potential was enormous for a serious and devastating incident.

Sgt. Ann Morrison says, "Operating a motor vehicle during perfect conditions can be risky... but distracting a driver of a vehicle in this manner could be tragic."

Police continue to investigate and will be following up with the Ministry of Children and Family Development based on the seriousness of the event.
