Baby returned to mom's custody

A four-month-old baby girl rescued from a hot car Monday afternoon is back with her mother.

Police were forced to break open the front passenger window Monday afternoon after the baby was discovered alone inside the vehicle in the Zellers parking lot.

RCMP Const. Steve Holmes says the air temperature was nearing 30 degrees Celsius at the time.

The baby was perspiring when police managed to remove her from the vehicle.

Holmes says the mother and her baby are in Kelowna from Alberta.

They are staying with the child's grandparents and plan to move to the area soon.

Holmes says police continue to investigate possible child endangerment charges against the mother.

The mother told Castanet news she was only shopping for 10 minutes.
