Update: Rutland murder charges

Kelowna RCMP have made what they term 'significant arrests' in the murder of Dain Phillips.

In total seven have been charged, two of whom are Hells Angels: Norman Cocks, 31, reported to be one of the founding members of the Kelowna Hells Angels, and 46-year-old Robert Thomas.

The president of the 100 Mile based Throttle Lockers, 52-year-old Robbert Cocks, is also charged. He is the father of Norman Cocks.

Also charged:  Anson Schell, Thomas Vaughan, Matthew McRae and Daniel McRae.

Phillips, 51, was beaten to death with a baseball bat during a dispute between rival groups on McCurdy and Gibson roads on the evening of June 11.

RCMP Const. Steve Holmes says members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-Southeast District and the Kelowna Major Crimes Unit will make the announcement during a news conference Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The attack occurred about 7 p.m. Police say several vehicles arrived at the scene about that time.

"All persons exited their respective vehicles and the physical altercation ensued," Sgt. Ann Morrison said at the time.

Morrison says it appears as though Phillips did not provoke the attack nor did he engage in the altercation.
