Students warned of stalker

Lake Country RCMP are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., an off duty police officer was driving on Mulberry Rd in Lake Country. The officer noticed a burgundy coloured vehicle stopped on the side of the road beside a 10 year old girl.

The vehicle sped off quickly as the other approached. The officer stopped to speak to the young girl who said that the man was asking her personal questions about where she lived.

The mother of the young girl told Castanet news that her daughter is very scared.  "He asked her very direct questions and was very aggressive." she says.

The man reportedly asked her daughter her name, phone number, address and even where her parents were.

Since the incident occurred near Davidson Road Elementary, the school, in concert with the RCMP, has taken steps to re-educate the children and inform their  parents.

"When any incident occurs such as this, we follow an established pattern set up by the RCMP," says Davidson Road Principal Murray MacKenzie. "We meet with all the students and go over personal safety again and then we discuss what you should be doing if someone approaches you and you don't feel comfortable. We've gone over that with all the children at the school."

Parents with students attending Davidson Road Elementary will also receive written notice from the school.

"We issue a letter to parents at night and encourage parents to review their family's safety plan with their children when they get home." says MacKenzie.  That letter was given to students on Friday.

Information about the suspect is minimal but police believe that he is an older male in his 60's, with short grey hair and facial hair. The vehicle is burgundy coloured and possibly a pick up truck.

Police and school officials are asking anyone with information on this incident or any other of a similar nature, to call the nearest branch of the RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
