Pedestrian killed on Hwy 97 ID'd

Update: March 1, 2:30 p.m. - RCMP have been able to identify the pedestrian who died in the collision with a car Saturday evening. The man has been identified as Richard Clavette, 50, of Penticton. Penticton RCMP and the Coroner are continuing their investigation into the incident. Penticton RCMP want to thank those people that have called and provided information regarding the incident.


Penticton RCMP are trying to uncover the identity of a man killed on Highway 97 near Sage Mesa Saturday evening.

A motorist had called RCMP at 9:31 p.m. to advise that a male was observed standing in the merge lane of the highway at that location.

Police were en-route when the male ran from the west site of the roadway into the pathway of a north bound Ford Focus.

He died as a result of the impact.

The man had no identification on him.

Police say he was wearing a grey/green jacket over a black fleece jacket, blue shirt, blue jeans and brown hiking boots.

The only items located was a black comb in his back pocket and some cigarette butts in his front pocket.

He is described as Caucasian, approximately 40 years of age, 165 cm (5'5") tall , 60 kg (135 lbs) with brown short hair.

The female driver and lone occupant of the Ford Focus was not injured. No charges are being considered at this time. Investigation is continuing.

Anyone with any information on the man’s identity are asked to contact Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or the nearest RCMP Detachment or Police Department. Any witnesses that can provide more information are also asked to contact the Penticton RCMP.

This is the second pedestrian fatality in Penticton this month.

On February 1, a 20-year-old was killed while crossing against the signal at the intersection of Fairview Road and Channel Parkway.
