Artist gets Juno nomination

An Okanagan musician is among the 2011 Juno nominees announced Tuesday.

Piano pop/rock soulman, Greg Sczebel, who won a Juno win in 2005 for his debut independent album, “Here to Stay,” shares the honour of a nomination with some of Canada’s top artists, including Justin Bieber, Drake, Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene.

Sczebel’s sophomore album “Love & the Lack Thereof” is nominated for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year – the same category he was named the winner in for his debut, “Here to Stay” in 2005.

“This album is my first mainstream Pop release, but it was also released in the Gospel market, where I got my start in this industry. Both markets have been so supportive and it’s an incredible honour to be recognized again," says Sczebel.

He was recently named fourth in all of British Columbia and was awarded $10,000 in the Pattison sponsored, “Peak Performance Project” – a fierce competition among 20 of the province’s most talented acts chosen from nearly 500 entries.

Fellow Peak Performance Project winners, Said the Whale are also nominated.

The nominated album “Love & the Lack Thereof” has been called “one of the strongest pop releases of the year (2009) – hands down” (The Bridge Live).

It can be found at music stores nationwide, on iTunes and GregSczebel.com
