Teen dead, two others injured in crash

Speed is believed to have been a factor in a fatal crash on Chase Falkland Road in the North Okanagan Wednesday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m. officers from the Vernon/North Okanagan detachment were called out to the scene, where they found a vehicle over a steep embankment.

The teenage driver had already died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

"Two other passengers in the vehicle were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries," says Molendyk.

A teenage male passenger in the back seat received non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Vernon General Hospital.

The teenage female in the front seat was taken to Royal Inland hospital in Kamloops with fractures.

The crash is still under investigation, but early indications show speed is likely a contributing factor in sending the car off the road.

Molendyk says that once the car plunged over the embankment, it also struck a wooden abutment.
