Bad puppies sought for TV show

Bad puppies in the Okanagan beware.

Professional dog trainer Brad Pattison is bringing his new show to the Kelowna area and is on the look out for some badly behaving puppies to be featured.

Pattison is the star of the TV show 'At The End of My Leash,' which ran for six seasons on the SLICE Network and followed him as he helped turn bad dogs into man's best friends.

Now he is starting a new show, this one is aimed at catching the bad habits in puppies before they become very bad habits in a full grown dog.

“It's called 'Puppy SOS' and that's exactly what it's about, we are going to help families with new puppies that are developing bad habits. I will teach the families how to train their puppy properly so it develops into a wonderful dog,” says Pattison.

He says the show will also focus on breed-specific traits a dog may have.

“Many people get dogs that are mixed breed and knowing what the traits of the various breeds are can help them understand what to watch out for in terms of behaviour and what kind of dog they can expect in the future.”

Pattison says they are looking for six families from the Okanagan area with a puppy that is no more than a year old, with a few exceptions.

“For example, a Great Dane is still considered a puppy at 14 months old. Besides a few breed exceptions, we are looking for puppies that are still puppies. Generally speaking, dogs mature socially when they are about two years old and they mature physically when they are about three years old. So by working with dogs that are less than a year old, we have a chance to fix bad habits before they become big issues.”

Any families that live between Vernon and Penticton and have a problem puppy and are interested in appearing on the show can send in their information to Pattison via his website.

Filming begins on October 22 and Pattison will visit each family four times over the course of ten days.

The Okanagan families will be featured in the first season of 'Puppy SOS,' which is expected to air on SLICE either in early January or early April of 2011.
