Update: 12:25 p.m. - Monday night's fatal crash, which claimed the life of a six-year-old boy, has become even more tragic.
Beryl Itani with Emergency Social Services says the mother and her son had been displaced by the Franklyn Road mobile home fire last week.
Itani says they had been in the care of ESS until noon on Monday.
Their case had been transfered to the Ministry of Housing and Social Development.
The 36-year-old mother has reportedly been released from hospital with a broken leg and other minor injuries.
A six-year-old boy has died after being stuck by an alleged drunk driver on Harvey Avenue Monday night.
On August 30, 2010, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a westbound grey Honda sedan, with two occupants collided with two pedestrians, who were crossing Harvey Avenue between Dilworth Drive and Cooper Road.
The pedestrians were a 36-year-old woman and her six-year-old son, both of whom are Kelowna residents.
The mother had non-life threatening injuries.
The boy suffered critical injuries at scene, and later died at Kelowna General Hospital.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old Kelowna man, showed signs of alcohol consumption at the scene, and failed a roadside alcohol screening device breath test.
He was investigated for impaired driving and later provided breath samples that were analyzed as being in excess of the legal limit.
RCMP Constable Steve Holmes says he was later released on a promise to appear in court on December 30.
He will likely be facing recommended charges of impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing injury.
The victims were crossing Harvey going north from Orchard Park Mall.
They were not using a crosswalk at the time of the collision, says Holmes.
The investigation is ongoing and RCMP are looking for any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to police.
