Update 4 p.m.: General Investigation Officers from South East District as well as the Vernon detachment continue to search the residence for evidence in this case. It is expected that the examination will continue through Friday night and into Saturday before it is complete.
Part of the team is working on getting the suspect before the Justice of the Peace and having him remanded in custody until early next week to appear in court to face charges. Due to the complexity of the case, investigators feel it will likely be Monday before any new information is released.
RCMP in Vernon are dealing with their first homicide of 2010.
Police spokesman Gord Molendyk says RCMP were called to the 2900 of 33rd Avenue About 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon for a report of a possible homicide.
He says preliminary investigation has led investigators to arrest a 31-year-old man who resides at the residence.
"The male suspect is in police custody," says Molendyk.
"Investigators are continuing the examination of the residence and it is expected the investigation will continue throughout the day."
Molendyk says the identity of the victim is not being released at this time, however, it is believed that the suspect and victim were known to each other.
"At this time there are very few details that can be released in this investigation as the investigators are still trying to piece together the details of the case."
