Not-so-benevolent bandit caught after allegedly stealing chocolate bars from Trail business

Chocolate bandit nabbed

A 31-year-old Trail man allegedly stole an armful of chocolate bars and fled from a local business over the Easter weekend.

The chocolate commandeer reportedly happened in the 700 block of Victoria Street, in Trail.

Officers later located the man a short distance away from the store. The officer reportedly knew the alleged suspect by name and he subsequently fled when officers addressed him.

The officer followed the man and asked him to stop several times before arresting him. During the arrest, the alleged armful of stolen chocolate bars was scattered in all directions.

"This man’s Easter egg exploits seemed ill-timed on a weekend that offers free chocolate eggs scattered around the local park for anyone to find," said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich of the Trail RCMP.

The officer later released the man on conditions not to return to the business. The man is set to make his first appearance on May 29 at Rossland Provincial Court. In addition, a report will be forwarded to Crown counsel.
