The B.C. Coroner's Service has identified the man who died after running into a tree at Big White over the weekend.

Daniel Robert Ian Dubienski, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Dubienski was visiting the ski resort with a group of friends from the Lower Mainland and was snowboarding on the Whitefoot Trail, an intermediate groomed run.

An off-duty doctor was on the same hill as Dubienski and responded to the scene after being alerted to the accident by people in a chairlift.

Although ski patrol arrived to help within minutes of the accident, Dubienski suffered severe head injuries.
