An international charity is hoping Kelowna residents will help them fill a container for the benefit of Haiti orphans.
God's Littlest Angels operates an orphanage in Haiti which is in desperate need of supplies following last month's devastating earthquake.
Kim Denis is the coordinator for the Kelowna chapter of GLA. She says they are collecting items to fill a shipping container to send to Haiti.
“The container is 40 feet long and we are hoping for help from Kelowna and area residents to fill it. GLA is trying to fill 10 such containers across Canada to send to Haiti, two are in B.C., including the one here in Kelowna,” says Denis.
She says they are doing a collection day on March 13 at 1150 Glenmore Road from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“Beyond that day, people can call me at (250) 764-2213 to make arrangements to drop off items at other times for the container. We have until the end of March to fill it, then it will be shipped to Ottawa on April 1.”
Denis says once the container arrives in Haiti, staff from GLA will distribute the contents to the orphanage and the surrounding area.
“Items in need are dried seeds, rice, canned meats and clothes, new or gently used, for men, women and children.”
Other items being collected for the container are medical supplies, shelter and home supplies and supplies for infants.
