The Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team, through Critter Aid in Summerland, is hosting a one day seminar and course on Saturday at the Lakeside Resort in Penticton.

Cheryl Rogers will be instructing and explains what will be discussed.

“Everyone gets a basic understanding of how to set up an animal intake facility to care for the animals during a disaster and we also get into a little bit of the search and rescue and that sort of thing. The important thing is for people to understand the positions that people have and also an incident command structure so you can work within the structure that already exists,” says Rogers.

She says the team was formed during the 2003 Okanagan Mountain Park Fire.

Before C-DART existed, Rogers says all animal rescues were done by organizations from the United States.
