2010 marks 10 years of the Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation.
Since its inception, members have worked to raise funds to continue ongoing support to the children in communities they serve.
Over the past ten years, Cops for Kids has raised over $1.2 million dollars to assist children with the purchase of wheelchairs, diabetic pumps, autism treatments, travel and medical costs associated with cancer and other medical care, mobility tools, orthotics, and therapeutic horseback riding, to name a few.
The Foundation is comprised of members and support staff of the RCMP South East District and a very dedicated and enthusiastic board of directors.
Their purpose and mandate is to assist children that are living within the Southern Interior Region of British Columbia and are in medical, physical or traumatic crisis.
In 2009, Cops for Kids processed 88 applications to assist children in crisis.
Some of the areas that they sponsored children include: Kelowna, Penticton, Castlegar, Grand Forks, Cranbrook, Golden, Invermere, Nelson, South Slocan, Parsons, Kamloops, Clear Water, Salmon Arm, Merritt, Princeton, and Vernon.
The groups' signature event, the Cops for Kids Ride, is a ten day ride which occurs each September over some very challenging terrain.
Other fundraising efforts throughout the year include a Slo-Pitch Tournament, Golf Tournament and in November 2010, a Cops for Kids RCMP Regimental Ball.
