An attempted home invasion has landed a 52-year-old Kelowna man behind bars.
Monday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., a 29-year-old woman answered the door at her home in the 1400 block of Hollywood Road South.
Constable Steve Holmes says when she opened the door, she found a man wearing a toque over his face and holding a knife.
“The woman screamed, which alerted her 30-year-old husband. The suspect forced his way past the woman and came face to face with her husband,” says Holmes.
He says the suspect pointed his knife at the couple, demanding money.
“When the husband said there was no money in the house, the suspect demanded the couple go into the bathroom. The husband seized an opportunity to remove the suspect's disguise, at which time, the suspect "gave up" the act and turned his knife over to the husband.”
Holmes says the suspect then sat down in the living room and waited as police were called.
“He surrendered to police when they arrived and was taken into custody.”
The suspect appears in court Tuesday to face charges of break and enter, robbery, disguise with intent and possession of a weapon.
He has no criminal record and is not known to police.
