The Kelowna RCMP are applying a full measure of policing resources in an effort to ensure that the end of 2009 is as safe as possible.
Constable Steve Holmes says police road checks will appear in a number of locations throughout New Year's eve and Big White will have extra policing in place.
"With an anticipated large snowfall expected for the next few days, police are reminding everyone to slow down, take more time, look ahead, do not be distracted, and do not drive if you have been drinking. Take a cab, or other form of transportation," says Holmes.
He says it is the Kelowna RCMP's goal to see that everyone enjoys a safe New Year.
"We do not want to see people "dying" to get home or "killing" someone else's chances of getting home safely."
