Despite heightened security at North American airports in the wake of an attempted terrorist airplane bombing over the U.S. a few days ago, passengers can expect only minor delays at Kelowna International Airport today.
Spokesperson Janelle Turpin says passengers travelling on Horizon Airline flights may experience "very minor" delays going through security. Otherwise, security screenings for domestic flights are happening fairly smoothly, she says.
This is also expected to be the airport's busiest day of the year with more than double the normal number of passengers heading through the terminal, says Turpin.
"There are longer line-ups happening today because you've got more than 5,000 passengers going through the terminal, whereas on any other day we've got about 2,300," says Turpin.
Turpin reminds people to check the Kelowna Airport website for arrival and departure delays, and to arrive at least one hour ahead of time for domestic flights and 90 minutes to two hours ahead of time for international flights.
Also, it's recommended people check out the new security procedures on the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority if they're flying internationally, as new temporary security rules have come into effect, including only one carry-on being strictly enforced.
