Marla Maxwell admits that she's looking over her shoulder after learning that her ex-boyfriend is back on the streets and on the run.
The Kelowna woman used to live with career criminal Allan Edward Javorsky.
That was a few years ago and Maxwell has resumed looking over her shoulder after learning that Javorsky has walked away from another halfway house.
Javorsky, who has an extensive criminal background, was wrapping up a sentence when he recently failed to return to his Edmonton halfway house.
Maxwell says Javorsky is unpredictable and violent.
"We had been living together for two-and-a-half years and in that time he was very abusive."
Maxwell first became aware of Javorsky's criminal past when police showed up at her Kelowna home in 2006 after he walked away from a halfway house.
"That's when I found out he had been convicted of sexual assault on a minor."
She says that up until his arrest in 2006, Javorsky had Maxwell fooled.
"He did not act like a man on the run from the police. I've been stopped for speeding with him in the car and he never panicked. I keep looking back for signs that he was on the run and there were none."
Maxwell says that living a normal life is difficult seeing that Javorsky could come knocking again.
"It's 50/50 if he will come back here. When I last spoke with him, he told me that he still looks at my picture every day. When he was in his violent moods, he would say that he would burn me alive and that if he couldn't have me, nobody could, so it's 50/50."
