Snow may greet Friday commuters

The first dusting of snow in the Okanagan Valley could greet drivers in time for the Friday morning commute.

According to Doug Lundquist at Environment Canada, a low pressure system moving our way from the northwest could bring with it a bit of wet snow Friday.

"This is definitely the time of year when we start to watch it (snow) coming up and down the mountains and wonder if it is going to touch the valley bottom," says Lundquist.

"Certainly it looks like we could get something Friday."

Lundquist says any snow will likely be in the form of wet snow and the amount will depend on where you live.

"The higher you are the more likely it is. The further south the less likely."

He says a second, more vigorous system will move into the Okanagan Sunday bringing with it warmer temperatures.

That system, according to Lundquist may bring rain or just stronger winds.

Either way, Lundquist says any snow that does remain will be melted by the second system.

The news is not all bad.

Big White has received enough early season snow to open this Saturday, about three weeks ahead of schedule.

The Ridge Rocket, Lara’s Gondola and the Plaza Chair will all open at 8:45 a.m. Saturday.

The mountain is expecting even more snow to fall on Friday.
