There is no change in the status of Evacuation Orders and Alerts as a result of the Terrace Mountain wildfire.
All orders and alerts remain in effect and are being assessed daily based on information received from Incident Command. It’s estimated there are just over 2,500 people on Evacuation Order and almost 2,200 still on alert.
Volunteers with the Emergency Social Services reception centre at Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School continue to provide assistance for food and lodging.
Since the reception centre opened with the most recent evacuations late Saturday afternoon, more than 1,100 people have registered with Emergency Social Services. Any evacuated residents that have not registered are asked to go in person so that contact information is available in the event that it is needed.
As the weekend has progressed, more hotel rooms have become available and ESS has continued to make the transition for those registered evacuees who were in group lodging accommodation. Emergency Social Services thanks all residents who offered to billet evacuated families. At this time, no further billets or donations are required.
The Ministry of Forests says favourable weather conditions yesterday provided an opportunity to make good progress on solidifying fire guards on the Terrace Mountain fire. It has consumed 7,025 hectares and is 30% contained.
Helicopter and air tanker attack crews snuffed out hot spots and the tankers laid down 265,000 litres of fire retardant in building two and a half kilometers of fireguard.
Once again, Okanagan Lake boaters should stay at least 400 metres from the shoreline of all the evacuated areas so that air attack equipment will have unhindered access to the lake.
Motorists should be aware that Westside Road remains closed at Baziw Orchards on the north side of the Evacuation area and just south of Traders Cove. No access is permitted.
The estimated 2,163 residents living in the following areas of Killiney and Westshore- Beau Park remain on Evacuation Alert and must be prepared to leave on little notice:
Ewings Landing
Estamont
Summersands
Aspen Shores
Killiney Beach
Marchbank
Wainman Cove
Evely Forest Recreation site
At this time there are approximately 2,500 residents on Evacuation Order from the following areas:
Caesar’s Landing
Nahun
Shelter Cove
District lots off South Terrace Main
Wilson’s Landing
Trader’s Cove
Bear Lake Main to Kilometer 13 marker
Bear Creek Provincial Park
Fintry Provincial Park
Upper Fintry
Fintry Delta/Muirallen Estates
Valley of the Sun
La Casa resort
BC Hydro encourages all residents to be prepared for electricity outages that are being experienced due to lightning strikes, forest fires and equipment failure in some instances because of extreme heat.
