Kelowna RCMP may have to do some searching Thursday, unless a stolen sea-doo and the thief show up.

Police say a personal watercraft was stolen just before 10 o'clock Wednesday night from the downtown Kelowna Marina, just as staff were locking things up for the night.

The rental craft was jumped on by a man who was part of a crowd of Canada Day partiers. He fired up the machine, and roared off into the dark.

Since then, there's been no report of the stolen watercraft, either beached or floating on the lake.

Police say they'll check out the situation, and they may have to launch a search.

Meantime, at least 40 people spent their Canada Day 'night' in the RCMP lockup.

Staff Sergeant Terry McLachlan says police had to break up a number of fights and corral some drunks in the downtown core, as thousands of people gathered to watch Canada Day fireworks.

RCMP also came up with a number of impaired drivers during vehicle checks.
