An injured mountain biker is resting in Penticton Hospital after being airlifted by helicopter Thursday morning from the mountains west of Oliver where he'd spent the night in the company of search-and-rescue personnel.
Darkness, dangerous terrain, and severity of the bicyclist's injuries prompted the Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue team, later aided by nine personnel from the Penticton team, to stay on the mountain with the individual rather than try to evacuate him overnight after reaching him in poor light, a spokeswoman says.
Meanwhile, Vernon Search and Rescue resumed the search at first light Thursday for a 22-year-old man missing in Trinity Valley, near Lumby after being called in Wednesday morning by the Lumby RCMP detachment.
Search-and-rescue personnel looked for the missing man in teams using all-terrain vehicles, man trackers, ground crews, and aircraft without success.
