A critically acclaimed documentary on the marijuana industry hits video shelves later this month.

Kelowna film maker, Adam Scorgie, released 'The Union: the business behind getting high,' in the spring of 2007.

The documentary, which was featured at 32 international film festivals, was named top documentary at the Winnipeg Film Festival and top Canadian documentary at the Edmonton Film Festival.

The documentary will hit video shelves July 28.

Scorgie says he will also have 1,000 special edition DVD's that he will sell exclusively to Kelowna residents to show his appreciation for all the support he received.

The film is being distributed by Phase 4 Films.

Meantime, Scorgie's next project, 'Ice Guardians,' has been put on hold.

The documentary about the life of an enforcer in professional hockey has been nixed by the NHL following the death of senior hockey player Don Sanderson as a result of an on-ice fight.

"We had a very cinematic way we wanted to go about this one. We wanted to follow two young guys who wanted to make it into the NHL as enforcers and follow Georges Laraque on the other side and see the contrast," says Scorgie.

"We had the support of the players, but we needed the support of the NHL to show the logos and the footage."

Scorgie says representatives of the NHL are still interested in the project, just not at the present time.

He says he's also working on a script for a film about his father's life growing up in Kelowna called 'Lake City.'
