Seven drunk drivers investigated

Traffic stops made for a busy weekend for police as they dealt with numerous possibly impaired drivers, a cocaine seizure and a bad young driver.

Between Friday and Saturday night, seven impaired investigations took place on Kelowna streets.

This is the second weekend in a row RCMP have pulled seven possible drunk drivers from the roads.

Constable Steve Holmes says four of the impaired resulted in charges of drive while impaired and over .08.

“One of the impaired drivers blew a “warn” for a roadside screening device test, and was given a 24 hour suspension as well as a VT for drive without due care as he was involved in an MVI. Police also made a cocaine seizure as a result of a traffic stop. Charge of possession of a controlled substance are being brought against a 33-year-old Kelowna man,” says Holmes.

He says a young driver was pulled over Saturday night for having expired plates that belonged to another vehicle.

Holmes says the driver was a learner who had two passengers, neither of whom where qualified supervisors.

“The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and he couldn’t produce his driver’s licence. This young man won six violation tickets for: No Insurance/ Wrong number plate/ Fail to wear seatbelt/ Fail to produce a valid DL/Drive contrary to Restrictions and Fail to display “L” sign.”

The teen’s total fine for the evening was $1,173.
