Flames spotted and quickly doused in Vernon's Becker Park

Fire human caused

UPDATE: 2:35 p.m.

Wednesday’s wildland fire in Becker Park was human caused, the City of Vernon confirms.

The fire was approximately 10 feet by 10 feet in size and was quickly put out by firefighters.

No injuries were reported.

RCMP also attended the scene.

Becker Park was recently added to the City of Vernon's list of public parks that prohibit temporary overnight camping after a staff report showed numerous bylaw calls.

“Vernon Fire Rescue Services is reminding the public to be cautious when enjoying outdoor spaces. Despite the cooler temperatures and recent precipitation, conditions remain very dry,” said city spokesperson Josh Winquist.
