An online mapping system used by residents of the Regional District of the Central Okanagan is getting a new look.
A new Geographic Information Systems mapping system is being launched on the Regional District website.
Communication Coordinator, Bruce Smith, says the new map is the culmination of many months of design, testing and updating.
“It provides a more powerful online mapping system that’s easier to use than the previous system. The new system utilizes the most up-to-date Environmental Systems Research Institute technology and will help us adapt more quickly to future improvements and changes,” says Smith.
Regional District Information Services Manager, Richard Bruneau, says the new GIS system has many more user-friendly features.
“It has immediate layering, a magnifying option that allows users to zoom in and get more details from maps and now people will be able to print selected maps in several different formats rather than just a jpeg image found on the old system,” says Bruneau.
He says the new system provides a more useful Help section.
“By clicking the Web Mapping Application Help icon you’re able to take a quick tour of the online system features, find help on getting started, options that will allow you to personalize your maps and answers to frequently asked questions and troubleshooting.”
During 2008, there were more than 28,000 visits recorded to the main GIS webpage, the portal to the online mapping system.
