What is democracy?

To the editor:
“Democracy: a form of government in which power is held by people under a free electoral system.”

I am absolutely and passionately outraged at our current political situation. Under the Canadian democratic system, Canadian’s were asked to go the polls and vote to elect a political party to run our country. The people of Canada raised their voices and a Conservative minority government was voted in.

How dare the other political parties disregard and disrespect the voice of Canada, and decide to form a coalition to try and oust the government that the people of Canada elected? Their motive isn’t about good governance for Canada this is simply a scenario of embittered and resentful political parties bullying their way into power.

Regardless of how you voted, regardless of which party you support, we must all agree that this is the most deplorable and blatant abuse of our system –in fact, this has to be the most disgusting scheme any political party could plot and contrive and wholly contradicts what Canada stands for and boasts about – “democracy: a form of government in which power is held by people under a free electoral system”.
