Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman’s film Australia, which was supposed to do decent numbers at the box office this weekend, had a bumpy start yesterday only taking in only $2.5 million. New expectations for the five-day holiday weekend are now closer to $18 million. Australia will likely finish in 7th place when the weekend is over. This isn’t good news for the picture, whose under performing box office won’t help its Oscar chances. My prediction is that when the Oscars are announced, this film won’t be mentioned.
Still over performing however is the runaway hit, Twilight. Twilight took in another $8 million yesterday, which may be enough of a lead to keep it on top of the box office again this weekend. Four Christmases and Bolt shouldn’t be too close behind, so it may be a close call at the top.
Rosie fails to revive the variety show genre. Miserably.
Excruciating. That’s the best word I can use to describe the Rosie Live show last night, which attempted to bring the variety show back to TV. There wasn’t a single funny moment, despite the presence of Kathy Griffin, Conan O’Brien and Alec Baldwin. Alanis Morrissette sang well, but it was a boring song. This was a total disaster, the reviews are already scathing, and the overnight ratings were poor, especially considering all the hype the show received. Unfortunately for Rosie, her chances of getting that six-episode deal for more of the same are going to be between slim and none.
