The United Way Radio Auction on Giant FM has wrapped up for another year.
CEO of United Way of the Central and South Okanagan-Similkameen, Harry Grossmith, says all the money raised stays local.
“The key from my perspective is it’s local, it’s community based, in other words, any dollars we raise stay in the community, I think that’s important for people to realize,” says Grossmith.
He says they're actually getting ready to wind down the events for the year.
“Well, most of our events have been completed, this is the last big one we’re doing and then we will be focusing on our workplace campaigns, which provides the bulk of the funding that we hand out to our community partners.”
Nora Hunt-Haft, campaign chair, says there's still time to help out.
“The campaign goes right through to the end of December, so people have time to send in their pledges,” says Haft.
She says the fund raising for United Way helps out 12 different agencies.
“They are the Agur Lake Camp Society, the Arthritis Society, the Canadian Mental health Association, Canadian Red Cross, Dragonfly Pond Family Society, the Penticton and District Community Resource Society, Neighbourhood Link, Penticton Regional Hospital Meals on Wheels, Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre, South Okanagan Victim’s Assistance Association, St. John’s Ambulance and Summerland Assets Development Initiative.”
The final total raised for this year's radio auction was $9,265.
