Hawkins to make announcement

This could be the day that Kelowna MLA Sindi Hawkins announces her retirement from politics.

The speculation is mounting following word that Premier Gordon Campbell will be in Kelowna today to mark the official unveiling of KGH's new $170 million patient-care tower. The announcement is slated for 2 p.m., but first Campbell will be in Vernon where he will officially unveil the new patient-care tower at Vernon Jubilee.

Following the hospital announcements, Campbell will head to the Eldorado Hotel in Kelowna where he will be joining Hawkins.

Hawkins has survived two bouts of leukemia.
