Kelowna’s Grand Okanagan Lakefront Resort has a new name.
The hotel was sold to the Delta franchise back in July for $131 million.
A grand opening celebration was held Tuesday to announce the opening of the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre.
Hank Stackhouse, Delta Hotels president and CEO, says they have been looking at coming to Kelowna for a number of years.
“We’re delighted. This is one area where we don’t have a presence and our customers have been asking us when are we going to go to Kelowna. The opportunity arose and here we are,” says Stackhouse.
He says they will be investing some $7 million into the hotel.
“We’re here to operate this hotel to the standards of a Delta establishment. We’re investing the money into our lobby, into food and beverage areas, we’re going to revamp the outlets so we’ve got a dynamic food and beverage operation, and we’re going to put some of the money into the rooms.”
Stackhouse says they are happy with the current staff.
“I’ve watched the team we have here and I’ve seen them deliver. They are dynamite. Our expectations have been met and exceeded so as far as I’m concerned, this team is the one that will take this hotel forward.”
