More information has been released about the human remains discovered in the North Okanagan last week.
The remains were found along the creek near Fulton Road in Vernon on October 13 by a hiker.
Vernon RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says the remains are that of an adult male.
“It has been determined that the remains had been in the area for between 10 and 20 years, so basically all that is left are skeletal remains. I understand there is enough of the remains left for the investigators to do some DNA testing to help determine the man’s age,” says Molendyk.
He says the police are working with the Coroners Department.
“They feel it could take some time to identify the remains and determine the cause of death. The main goal is of course to identify the man. They won’t only look at missing person’s reports from Vernon, they will be looking at reports from other areas, such as Kelowna because the man could have just been visiting Vernon.”
Last week, a forensic anthropologist did an extensive search of the area where the remains were found.
