An Okanagan Sun player has been killed in a traffic accident, on the eve of the team's semi-final game today at the Apple Bowl.

21-year old running back Janson Towers died en route to hospital, after his motorcycle collided with a semi at Highway 97 and Gordon Drive.

RCMP say the motorcycle appeared to be going too fast to avoid a transport rig as it was making a left turn off the highway.

A statement from the Okanagan Sun expresses deep regret at Janson Towers' death, noting he had been named 'most inspirational player' at a recent awards ceremony. The statement also says Towers was riding his motorcycle after an evening team practice.

The Sun say their players and coaches are understandably dealing with incredible emotions, as they prepare for today's 1 p.m. semifinal against the Surrey Big Kahuna Rams.
