If you have the money and have the highest bid, you could own your very own elementary school.
Bellevue Creek Elementary School on Raymer Road in the Lower Mission is up for sale.
"It's on 5.3 acres of property and includes a 26,164 square foot elementary school in good condition, paved driveways, parking area, grass sports fields and gravel play area. Of course, all utilities are available on the site," says School District 23 Planning Manager, Judy Shoemaker.
"It is currently zoned P2 and there are many uses under P2 from independent schools to health care facilities. Even pet cemeteries are under P2."
Shoemaker says there were three elementary schools within close proximity of each other, and with the growth moving to the Upper Mission area, SD23 decided to close Bellevue Creek Elementary.
The district is in the process of building Chute Lake Elementary School. The $9.18 million school is scheduled to be complete in time for the start of the 2009-2010 school year.
"The proceeds from the sale of Bellevue Creek Elementary will help construct the new school."
Shoemaker says reaction to the sale from interested buyers has been positive.
"We've had three public showings. It is a sealed bid on November 3rd so we won't know the reaction until that time."
She says anyone hoping to develop the site beyond the current P2 zoning would have to apply to the city and go through the process.
"They will of course have to work with the city planners as to what will be acceptable on the site."
