A Westside councillor has decided to seek a second term.
Carol Zanon was one of the first councillors elected in the new District municipality of Westside and she says she’d like to run again.
“The past year has been full of rewarding experiences that have led me and my community to another stage of growth and maturity. We met many challenges and accomplished many things as a new council. We started with a blank slate and developed the philosophy and policy to help us develop a new and viable municipality,” says Zanon.
She says they hired highly motivated staff members who, in turn, helped us to form our first strategic plan and budget.
Zanon says future planning needs and challenges include:
Land Use, Development and Growth
Road, Water and Sewer Infrastructure
Energy Sufficiency and Reliability - No Blackouts
A Waterfront Plan
Preservation of the Watershed and our Environment
Clean Air Initiatives
Integration of Transportation and Connectivity within the Municipality
Adequate Fire and Police Service and Education
Financial Stewardship
“My experiences with community water and land use issues are examples of how I am qualified for this office. All of the above matters require an appreciation of due process, efficiency and good judgment as well as a sense of social responsibility and social justice. I believe that councillors must have a philosophy of creative thinking and a sense of community vision. I offer both.”
Zanon has lived on the Westside for 10 years with her husband Carl. They have six children and seven grandchildren.
