North Okanagan RCMP are trying to locate a witness to an assault on a mentally challenged man.

Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says they are trying to locate two women in connection with the assault which occurred on September 27 near the fountain in Polson Park.

“Around 5:30 p.m., the man was assaulted several times in the head with what he described as a stick. He did have noticeable injuries to the head and was bleeding when the police arrived. He said he was assaulted by a female who said he was staring at her,” says Molendyk.

He says the man described the woman as Caucasian, with blond hair, wearing a blue shirt and jeans.

“A second female did come to his aid and sat him on a picnic table to wait for the ambulance to arrive. She left prior to the emergency personal attending. The police are asking anyone with any information or who might have seen the exchange to call them.”

Molendyk says they want to speak with anyone who may have information about the identity of either woman.

The man suffered minor injuries to his face and ear.
