Ricky Gervais to host Oscars?

People in Hollywood must have been paying attention to all the media analysis of the Emmy telecast (including my own) that noted how Ricky Gervais was the best part of the show. My telepathic pleas to the Emmy producers demanded that Gervais be asked to host next year's awards, but it seems like the Oscar producers have intercepted them. There is now buzz in Hollywood that Gervais is being considered to host next year's Oscars! The Brits are taking over our awards shows, and I love it!

Good news for the Oscars?

Johnny Depp working hard for the Mouse

Johnny Depp is going to be a very busy man working for Disney over the next few years. The Mouse House has signed Depp for three big projects: he will reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in Pirates 4 (do we really need a fourth movie?), will play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s new vision of Alice in Wonderland, and will play Tonto in a new version of The Lone Ranger. Alice in Wonderland, scheduled for release in 2010, will be shot using 3-D technology. Now THAT will be sweet!

Depp helped Disney earn a combined $2.6 billion at the box office with the three pics in the “Pirates” franchise, so it’s no surprise they want more of him.

Michael Moore film available for free

There is a new movie by Michael Moore that he is giving away at no charge! It was made available on his website earlier this week, and I have been too busy to see it yet. As soon as I see it I’ll have an update. You can check it out for yourself here:

Natalie Portman single

Great news for single men out there: actress Natalie Portman, perhaps the classiest actress in Hollywood, has ended her relationship with folk rocker Devendra Banhart. The girl is single! These two made the strangest pair—have you seen what Devendra looks like? And sounds like? I’m including a links of the video in which they met for you to see for yourself if you don’t know much about him. I’ll admit to liking a few of his songs, but I’d bet that most people on the planet could not take him in heavy doses! I’m curious to see which artsy guy will be next on Natalie’s list…

Who is this Devendra guy anyway, you ask?

Interesting action on the Billboard Singles Chart

Pink, who recently refuted rumors about being a lesbian, has lost the #1 position on the singles chart this week to rapper T.I., who is back at #1 with Whatever You Like. Kanye West, whose new single Love Lockdown is #1 on the iTunes chart, debuts at #3, the best debut of his career. I really like the tune, although many hip-hop stations are dissing it because he actually sings in the song, and that it’s too “soft.” What do you think?

Someone get me a video of this! Paris Hilton vs. Joy Behar

I can’t seem to track down a video of this anywhere. Paris Hilton appeared on The View this morning and got into a heated argument over her right to vote, given that she had served time in jail. Behar told her that she shouldn’t be allowed to vote, as one of her friends had once served time “in the slammer” and couldn’t vote because of it.

I’m RARELY on Paris’s side, but on this one I feel for her. When you're talking to someone who has been in jail, don't call it “the slammer.” And before you insult someone on national TV, do your homework.

I did some homework, and not only can people vote after they have been in jail, they can vote WHILE they are in jail in some cases. Only people who are in prison for a felony or on parole for a felony are ineligible to vote.
I want to know what kind of company Joy Behar keeps!

Tonight is couch potato night!

What a night for TV. Our PVR's hard drive is going to be put to the test tonight as we hunker down after dinner to watch a LOT of television. Survivor is back for its eightieth season or something, Earl is back, the crew from the Office return for some crazy story lines, and Chef Gordon Ramsay gets two hours on Fox. Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy also return, but I can't get excited about those shows.

OFFICE SPOILER ALERT!

Don't read on if you don't want to know what's going down in Scranton tonight.

Pam has left the office! Pam is going to be in school in New York for the first few episodes, and her and Jim will have to do the long distance thing. Cameras will still be following Pam around, so don't worry. We will also be witnessing two office love triangles, Angela/Dwight/Andy and Michael/Holly/Jan. Remember that Jan is also pregnant. Holly (Amy Ryan) has signed on for at least five episodes so it should be interesting to see how it turns out.

Last night's TV ratings (courtesy: Zap2it)

The "Dancing with the Stars" results show ruled the 8 p.m. hour for ABC with a 10.3/17. FOX's "Bones" came in second. The premiere of "Knight Rider" managed only a 4.5/7 for NBC, though that was good enough to edge out "The New Adventures of Old Christine," 4.4/7, and the debut of "Gary Unmarried," 4.5/7, on CBS. "America's Next Top Model" drew a 2.7/4 for The CW.

All four major networks aired President Bush's address from 9 to about 9:15 p.m. After that, the "Criminal Minds" season premiere scored a 9.4/14 to move CBS into the lead. NBC moved up to second with "America's Got Talent," 6.5/10. ABC's special "David Blaine: Dive of Death" drew a 5.6/9, topping the 2.7/4 for '"Til Death" and "Do Not Disturb" on FOX. The CW aired a repeat of Tuesday's "90210."

The "CSI: NY" season premiere posted a 9.8/16 for CBS at 10 p.m. The David Blaine special on ABC and the "Lipstick Jungle" season premiere on NBC each drew a 4.3/7, with ABC grabbing a few more total viewers.
